October 2022 Trestle Board

From the East

My Brethren,

On a somber note Worshipful Brother James Lester has gone to that “house not made with hands”. Masonic service was held in September and our Brother was interred with

his beloved wife at the Veterans cemetery in Eagle Point. We all will miss Brother Lester.

New floors are in the dining room and kitchen, a new audio system will be in place before October stated meeting, and the dining room and kitchen will be painted on Oct. 17th to 20th. October stated is advance night (step up night) and Brother Tracy has the honors. November stated is an Official Visit by the Grand Master. Officers wear tuxedos. Our Junior Warden is scheduling a catered Tri-Tip dinner so please RSVP to WB Gilbert with attendance numbers, and apologies to those I previously misinformed regarding the main course. October 18th after officers meeting there will be a short practice for receiving the Grand Master.

My Brethren,

With the loss of Brother Lester, that place in the lodge that he filled will be missed greatly.  With the floor installed and the lodge being painted the lodge is getting some needed care. I’m looking at the care we are putting into our physical lodge facility, and hoping we are devoting the same kind of care towards our brethren, ourselves, and our loved ones.

Looking at Octobers meeting it makes me remember back just a few years ago when I was first initiated into the lodge. It makes me wonder why did I not do it sooner. All I can say it that I must not have been ready at the time. This makes me think that we should not rush anything it will all be done in the time that it is supposed to happen.

And Meet on the Level

From the South

Brethren, The loss of WB Jim Lester weighs very heavy on me. He was my coach and mentor throughout my Masonic career. He always had very high standards for his students and we strived to meet those expectations. Jim was an Air Force Captain, Master of his Lodge in 1976 & a Hiram Awardee. He truly lived by his Masonic obligations and “Ever lived, walked and acted as one!” Jim leaves a massive hole in our Lodge and it is up to us as members, students and mentees to do our best to attempt to fill that hole. When I was first getting into Masonry, I was told that Grants Pass was “stuck up.” I soon realized that we were not “stuck up”, we were just proud of our ritual work and the others were too lax! Jim needs to know that the work he did wasn’t for naught! We will continue to do great work for our brothers and candidates and make Jim proud of his legacy.

On a lighter note, November 1st Stated Meeting, we will be receiving the Grand Master! I have a catered dinner being served at 6 pm and I will need RSVP’s by October 18th. Bring your wives and enjoy the Tri-Tip, cheesy mashed potatoes, green salad, baked beans, dinner rolls and cobbler! Cost is $20 per person. Again RSVP to me by Oct. 18 at: gpcaver@gmail.com 541-660-2443 or on Wire I don’t want to run out of food before everyone is fed! And act by the Plumb!
